Okay. Ever since my big blog resolution, I disappeared. Well first of all, I’m getting a new job! (finally). Its only for 3 months but I’m hoping like crazy that I get to stay on.

I won’t start on my new job till 1st February but ever since then I have been busy trying to sort out my priorities. 2012 has been good to me so far and I intend for it to stay that way. I’ll still blog but not as frequently.

Well anyway here’s an update on what I’ve been up to. Nope, its not instagram (I’m a loyal droid user, I’ve even convinced Mr Wonderful to switch), its something better, its called Pixlr-O-Matic.

1. I bought gold bobby pins and a gold hair cuff from H&M. I believe in “Accessories Maketh and Breaketh an outfit”

2. Spray painted my phone case in umm.. Gold.

3. Weather’s been a Capital B but when the storm cleared, the sky was not just blue. It was DEEP Blue.

4. Had Yusheng with my friends! Can you believe my friend made it instead of buying the ones in supermarket?! Happy Chinese New Year by the way!

5. Watched Wicked with Mr. Wonderful on his birthday! It was A-mazing.

6. Baked cupcakes for the first time!

Famous passage

My favourite book has always been Pride and Prejudice. I know I’ve written about it before but I’d like to share my favourite passage in the book, its basically Mr Darcy’s passionate and violent confession.

This is the first post of the new year! Between my last post and now, I’ve basically been bumming about and right now I’m crossing my fingers and I hope to hear some very very good news.

I won’t say what as I’m afraid of jinxing it.

Well anyway, first of all, Happy 2012! And as with every new year, its time for resolutions. Hah. I looked at the ones I made last year and the only one I’ve completed is I’ve learnt to knit. The closest thing I completed was running a marathon. I did sign up for a run but it was only 16.8km and it felt more as if I’ve limped, than ran the whole distance.

So what I’ve been up to since my last post? Apart from bumming about, I’ve thought about my resolutions and I’ve decided to follow Geneva of A Pair and A Spare’s guide to making New Year’s Resolution.

Win My Heart

Boxing Day to me is always a recovery day for me. After the madness and thrill of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, its nice to have some quiet and peaceful time. With a cup of tea (or coffee) in hand and cuddle with your special someone.
Speaking of your special someone, did you spend it with him(or her)? Mr Wonderful went to Macau with his family for a vacation and he’s flying back today. I missed him terribly and can’t wait to see him.

In the mean time I found this really cute tumblr. Its called win my heart and it lists all the things a man can do to win your heart. Mr Wonderful has already won my heart but its nice to look through the list and find some of the things he did to win my heart and he’s still doing it. Like #11, #18, #29, #36, #60 and #69(!). I could list more but take a look and take your pick.

DIY Twig Ring

This DIY is based on the DIY Twig Bracelet by Geneva of A Pair and a Spare instructions are the same except I decided to make a ring.

A word of advice, use green fresh twigs as its not brittle. Once you've bent and twisted the twig together to fit your finger, tie it with a string and leave it out to dry or at least a day. *VERY IMPORTANT TO DO* The twig will lose mass and will fit around your finger looser. So after drying it out, cut the string adjust it again to fit your finger tie it with a string again before painting it.

This has become one of my favourite jewelry to wear

Hi everyone! Its been awhile. I got so busy with my birthday celebrations I neglected the blog!

I hope this video makes up for it. Christy requested a video how to of the DIY Pen Wrap. Its really mortifying for me. I don’t like doing videos. I can’t enunciate my words well and I’m horrible at editing.

I hope this video and the instructions are clear! I am thinking of doing another DIY. The hair feather extension perhaps that I posted at the old blog. Hmm. Let me recover from the horrors of doing that one video above and strategize (and script) for the next DIY. A video definitely because its too confusing to take of that step by step.

No guide this week. I apologize. Not to worry, starting next week, I'll be posting gift guides for the holidays!

In the mean time, enjoy this trailer for Snow White and the Huntsman.

What do you think of Kristen Stewart playing as Snow White? I have mixed feeling about it. She's not really "Fairest of them All" material. Snow White has "skin as white as snow, lips red as blood and hair black as ebony" Sure she fits the description but she's more of sickly pale than radiant pale. Hmm.

I'd pick Natalie Portman, Alexis Bledel or Katie Holmes for the role but she really kicks ass in what the trailer has shown so far.. We won't know if she makes a great Snow White till we watch the film. I can't wait.

In fact I really like how films are bringing out the darkness of fairy tales. If you do read the original stories, they're quite dark.

So far we've had Red Riding Hood and Beastly. What about Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty? What fairy tale would you like to watch come to life on film?

DIY Ethnic Pen Wrap

Things you need:

Embroidery thread, 1 main colour and 1 contrasting for the weaving
Your favourite pen, mine is the Pilot G-1 Grip
Scissors
Glue Gun

One of my goal for Waking Up Famous is to feature a DIY at least once a month and well this is this month’s DIY!

Instructions:

Cut out 5 pieces of the thread you’ll be using for weaving, the length should be twice the length of the pen.
Using a shorter length of thread, tie the 5 pieces of weaving thread at the middle and fold it into half
Using the glue gun, secure the weaving thread to the side of the end of pen.
Glue the main wrapping thread on top of the weaving threads.
Start wrapping the main thread around the body of the pen making sure the weaving the thread cannot be seen. Wrap around 10 times.
Start weaving with the pattern provided below.
Once you’re done weaving, trim the weaving thread and glue the ends to the pen before continuing to wrap the main colour towards the tip of the pen.
Glue the end of the main thread to the pen. Make sure you can still cap the pen!

I hope the instructions are easy to follow. This is the first DIY I've written. Feel free to ask for clarifications!

Framed Medals

My dad recently framed up medals my siblings and I received over. From our schools’ Sports Day to my most recent medal for completing a 16.8 KM run
My dad is awesome for thinking up of this. I couldn’t wait to post this up. I already have a DIY ready to be posted on Wednesday but this I couldn’t resist.
So here’s what my dad did.
1. Gather up the medals and detach from the ribbons.
2. Cut out a piece of cardboard the size of the mat of your frame.
3. Glue the medallions to the piece of cardboard.
4. Mount the cardboard to the mounting board of the frame.
5. Frame it up!
Its not really a new idea but this is definitely a much better way to display the medals than hanging it over our bed posts.
Now let’s wait and see what my dad will do with our trophies.

The Organizer

Who needs an organizer when you have technology! Well, me. I’m no technophobe but I still do love an old-fashioned organizer.

My love for organizer started back when I was in secondary school. In my first year they gave me one as part of my orientation package and the subsequent years, refills. It became one of our source of creativity outlet to show our individuality in our uniformed school life. It was a who-can-decorate-their-organizer-the-best competition every year. (I buy a new set every year).

It was also, who-can-fill in-the-most-pages competition. To me, it just wasn’t an organizer for me to pencil in homework and after school activities, I drew and wrote quotes in on days where I have nothing (mainly Saturdays and Sundays) It was both where I pencil in inspirations and my source for them. It was organized chaos and I loved it.

Ever since I’ve left school, finding that one system that works for me is as elusive as a sighting of the Loch Ness Monster. Book store variety don’t do for me, although a lot of cute Korean ones have been popping around, it doesn’t feel serious enough to me. So here’s a list of my potential 2012 organizer and a guide on creating a creative organized chaos.

1. Kate Spade - TUDOR CITY LARGE DEBRA

I’m a huge huge fan of Kate Spade. And this has been on my birthday and Christmas list ever since I discovered the brand referenced in a young adult book I read when I was a teen. I love how serious it is but fun at the same time with its bright colours! I just wish it was affordable.

2. Frankie Magazine – 2012 Daily Journal

Every year Frankie Magazine produce their own journal for printing and every year, its been such an eye candy. Its more personal than professional but who cares! Its amazing! Imagine sitting at Starbucks listening to your favourite music while writing in your thoughts in this journal.

3. Filofax – Classic (Personal)

Hands down, Filofax should be on the list. I love how you can create your own system and personalise it. Its professional definitely but I’ll definitely go crazy with creating my perfect system.

So those are my top 3 organizers I want to own, possibly all three at once but that’s cat lady crazy. (Well, I’m on my way to becoming one)

So here’s a few tips on using an organizer.

Find one that you can carry around all the time. You don’t want one where its too heavy or too big to lug about in your purse. The perfect size is a personal.
Do you use coloured pens? Nothing to be ashamed about. Keep it to a maximum of three colours. Once again, you’ll have the issue of lugging those pens about.
Not into coloured pens? Highlighters is the way then! No? Hmm..
If you see something or read inspiring, jot it down, doodle it but make sure you’ve put it in because eventually if you don’t you’ll forget it, unless its something that’s so amazing its been imprinted into your brains for life.
Keep your organizers once the year is through. Its always fun to look back and remember your lunch date with the potential Mr Wonderful or the day you earned a promotion at work.

At the beginning of November, I got my first birthday present. It was from Mr Wonderful.

You might find it weird to gift someone such a macabre book on their birthday but not me. I told him about two years back that I’ve always wanted to own this book and he remembered!
And him gifting it to me made me remember the first book he gave me.

He really knows what I want hence, the nickname Mr Wonderful. Well this reminded me of my list of books I want to own. I own about 15 books out of the gazillion I want.
Anyway here’s a list of books I can think offhand I want to get and my criteria is that I have to try and get hardcover versions. I do hope to pass on my library to my children one day and hard cover lasts.

A Handy Guide to Setting Up Your Own Basic Home Bar Part 3

Hello! Its the third and final installment! And as mentioned previously, we’re going to talk about basic recipes of drinks you should know up your sleeve but before we go into that, I’d like to touch on planning your drinks menu when you entertain.

From my experience, you don’t really need a lot of fancy drinks up your sleeve if you’re entertaining. Frankly its expensive to have a menu as varied as the bars in clubs. Firstly, match the drinks to the type of party, the list below should help.

1. Its the (insert sport) World Cup Finals! Let’s watch at my place party.Beer. That’s it.

2. I’m entertaining my boss for dinner. Find out his favourite drink, have whisky (neat or on the rocks), know your gin and tonic and you also can never go wrong with wine.

3. I’m having a BBQ and bring the kids and the granpas and grandmas. Something fun and fruity for the adults and a Shirley Temple for the kids. Also, you can never go wrong with beer.

4. Having a girls night in. Wine, martinis and more wine.

Another tip, keep your drinks menu to a maximum of 3 and keep the it simple. You wouldn’t want to be stuck behind the bar at your own party making complicated drinks all night long.

So now on the recipe!

First up is the classic Gin and Tonic.

Ingredients:

2 oz Gin
4 oz tonic
Ice cubes
and a wedge of lime to garnish.

Pour the gin and tonic into a high ball glass filled to the top with ice. Garnish with the wedge of lime.

Next is Tequila Sunrise

Ingredients:

1 serve of tequila
A dash of grenadine syrup
Orange juice

Using a highball glass filled with ice, pour in the tequila followed by the orange juice. Next slowly pour in the grenadine with the glass tilted to the side and let the grenadine settle at the bottom of the glass and viola a Tequila Sunrise!

Next is a Shirley Temple

Ingredients:

Grenadine syrup
Sprite or 7-up or Ginger Ale
Maraschino cherry

You can use a highball glass filled with ice. Pour in a dash or two of grenadine syrup and top it up with the sprite/7-up/Ginger Ale and garnish with a cherry! A favourite among kids!

And.. that’s basically all the recipes I have up my sleeve, unless you count in tequila shots.

That’s it! The final instalment. I’m a little bit sad but I hope you enjoyed it.

A Handy Guide To Setting Up Your Own Basic Home Bar Part 2

Welcome back to Part 2! Read Part 1 of A Handy Guide to Setting Up Your Own Basic Home Bar here.
Now you’ve got the drinks and as mentioned previously, we’re going to talk hardware.

Basic tools you would need:

1. Cocktail Shaker: Love the monogrammed shaker above! There are different types and shapes of shakers, Most common is the Boston Shaker.

2. Jigger: Used to measure the spirits required in cocktails. Standard serve is usually 30 ml, depending on where you live. So unless you’re very good at “guesstimation” (according to Mr Wonderful, counting 4 Mississippis equals to one serve), a jigger is recommended.
3. Strainer: Certain cocktail recipes calls for a strainer, make sure it fits over the mouth of your shaker
4. Pourer: A must. You can pour straight from the bottle but a pourer makes it so so much more easier, trust me.
5. Muddler: Used to mash fruits, herbs and spices to release the flavour in cocktails.
6. Bottle Opener: Mr Wonderful would recommend a bar blade but a simple (and cute) bottle opener will do. Also probably get a corkscrew for your wine.

Apart from the list above you also need the following items you probably already have in the kitchen:

1. Ice Bucket and Ice Tong
2. Chopping Board and Knife
3. Blender
4. Juice Squeezer

Now that we’ve got the tools, you would next need to build up your collection of drinkwares. The varieties of tumblers and stemwares out there are mind boggling, seriously. I recommend the few types of glasses below unless you’re very very very particular about matching your drinks to your drinkwares.

1. Lowball Glass or Old Fashion Glass: Serve spirits neat or on the rocks.

2. Highball Glass: Cocktails such as Gin and Tonic, Bloody Mary, Cuba Libre and Rum and Coke calls for the use of this type of tumbler
3. Pint Glass: For beers and also for mixing.
4. Shot Glass: For shooters.
5. Wine Glasses: One for reds (the bowl is usually bigger), one for white and a flute for champagne.

I'm obsessed with True Blood. I fell in love with the books by Charlaine Harris and to see it brought to TV is amazing. Blood, Sex and Mystery. There is so much of nudity going on, I fear my mum would walk in on me watching it and she’ll start accusing me of watching pornography.

With season 5 starting in 2011. I decided to re-watch the rest of the previous seasons again and one thing struck me, everyone wore really cute and/or sexy lingerie.

I actually went out and bought two new set and I’m thinking of getting a negligee to wear to sleep. I’m more of a tank top and shorts ensemble then wear a negligee to sleep but the show might convert me. So I did a little bit window shopping online and picked out my favourite unmentionables below.

A Handy Guide to Setting Up Your Own Home Bar Part 1

Hello! Since I’m in such a celebratory mood why not kick off the blog with a three part series on setting up your own home bar. One of thing Mr Wonderful and I discussed if we ever get married is to have a home bar because we plan on entertaining a lot. Another thing we discussed is what game console to get but that’s probably for another post.

I’ve never been interested in beverages until I met Mr Wonderful and he absolutely got me hooked and turned me into an alcoholic aficionado of sorts. So let’s get started!

The basics of any home bar is of course the drinks! Drinks you must have stocked up are:

1. Beer: Perfect for watching live telecast of your favourite sport on TV. My personal favourite? Corona Beer. Perfect for the tropical weather here in Singapore.

2. Spirits: Vodka, Gin, Tequila, Whisky and Rum. The basic 5, served neat, on the rocks or mixed in cocktails.

3. Wines: Red, White and Champagne. Self-explanatory.

Other things you might want to stock up on:

1. Liqueurs

2. Fruit Juices

3. Soda

4. Syrups

5. Bitters
